An invitation from the Diocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis to attend a workshop in your deanery:
Sacramental Preparation with Children: What are we preparing them for? The current process of sacramental preparation for children in the Catholic Church is having limited success. Yes, children receive the sacraments and lovely pictures are taken with our bishop but is that all? Once fully initiated a great number of children with their families no longer participate in the life of the faith community. Whether it is baptism or confirmation/first Eucharist preparation, Church initiation seems to be one of the few initiation journeys that reduces parish participation rather than increases is, as intended.
If this introduction piques your interest or you are involved in any sacramental preparation (marriage, baptism, or confirmation/first Eucharist) in your parish or deanery, this workshop will be of interest to you. All of our voices are needed!!!
Each evening will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 8:30 p.m. Coffee and a snack will follow.
May 7 at St. Lucy Parish in Arborfield (Deanery 2)
Please mark your calendars and be sure to invite your friends and fellow catechists to attend this workshop. Participants will have an opportunity to both listen to a short presentation after which they will be able to consider possible adaptive changes to their own sacramental preparation processes.
Please send your registration in soon! The diocese just needs numbers, and the parish will take care of the registration costs.
